Expansion in 2007: Space and Direction

January 1, 2007

Tatiana Andreeva announced on January 1, 2007 a new direction for her art gallery in Santa Fe, NM. Best known for her extraordinary collection of portrait artists and for working in the portrait commission field, she is now expanding her offerings to include classical, figurative paintings and sculpture. Over the course of the year she will bring 8 new artists into her already impressive stable of artists and instructors.

To celebrate this “New Direction” Andreeva has chosen the work of Grace Kim for a solo show in February and March. This exhibition, “Cultivating Stillness,” may be seen on the Andreeva website and is featured in an article in the January issue of the American Art Collector, and the winter 2007 issue of Santa Fe’s Focus Magazine.

Kim came to the art world later in life after a successful career as an architect. Her training helped develop the drawing skills she needed to create art at an advanced level. “I know it is important for artists to learn strong drawing skills, so I am grateful for my background,” says Kim, whose drawing skill allowed her to advance very quickly in her new career.

In the Still Life category, Kim’s work was awarded first place in the “Best Art of 2006” competition sponsored by the Artists’ Magazine. Juror, Jane Jones, chose Grace Kim’s “Persimmon,” as this category’s winner. “At first, it appears to be a relatively simple composition, but the interest is in the subtleties,” Jones says. “The quality that is the most compelling for me is the light on the persimmon. It would be very easy just to notice that the surface is shiny, but this artist noticed and captured the light persimmons transmit from inside of them.”

In selecting Kim to join her impressive stable of artists, Ms. Andreeva admits to always loving still life. “I am pulled into these compositions first by the color, then my eye moves around the canvas taking in all the detail. Kim’s paintings reflect her unbounded love and appreciation for life and the beauty of this world. We are thrilled to be able to showcase her magnificent talent in Santa Fe.”
